Painting Procedure:
In this project we used a product by Sherwin Williams called Woodscapes. It’s a solid stain. The first thing we did was power wash all the surfaces being painted. It was actually a soft wash; we’re just use to calling it power wash since we use a power washer to do it. What we do first is wet all the vegetation around the area, so it doesn’t die when the soap hits it. Then, we wet the whole house with low pressure. Once wet, we apply the soap which the power washer applies it too. When surfaces are very dirty, we use Clorox2. We are not supposed to use bleach in the power washer because it wears out the washers, so we apply the Clorox using pump backpack sprayers. Most of the time Simple Green does a great job without having to use bleach. You can also find SIMPLE GREEN in Sherwin Williams. Simple Green is a concentrated, economical and versatile all-purpose cleaner. We let the soap sink in for about 10 minutes. Then, we rinse it off using soft pressure.
We didn’t need to clean it much since it was still new. What we did need to do was make sure the wood was cured before applying the stain. Applying the stain with a sprayer and back brushing was an option, but we ended up deciding to just brush the whole thing. Excellent choice, nothing better than brushing in some stain. That paint job is going to last forever.
We revisited the site a year after applying the stain, and it still looks brand new. I will visit it again next year to see how it’s holding up then I’ll update this post. Although I’m very confident it will be good for a long time since it got an excellent prep and 2 coats of an excellent product. Oh, the coats were also applied by excellent painters.
