Painting Exterior Cement Block Walls.
Another hot day doing some exterior painting. In this job we used Behr’s Marquee Exterior Paint. Behr’s Marquee Exterior comes in 3 different sheens. Flat, Satin Enamel, and Semi-Gloss Enamel. They have advanced dirt resistance, exceptional fade resistance, it gets adhesion over chalky surfaces, resist rain shortly after application and it gets 1 coat coverage in over 700 colors.
We had kind of a bad experience with Behr’s Marquee. Well, our first 2 times using it everything was great. Then we quoted the interior of a house, it was a light color over a light color, so we quoted it for 1 coat of Behr’s Marquee. We had seen dark colors over light colors and covered excellent in on coat, so we figured we can do a light color over a light color.
Marquee Paint.
We sent the contract, it got accepted. We got the downpayment, the date came, and we got everything ready. The whole house was ready for paint. So I start painting the master bedroom when I quickly realize the paint dried and did not look good in 1 coat, I did the next wall a bit heavier and still it did not look good.
Not knowing what to do I called the representative of Behr over at the Home Depot. I started complaining about it not covering in 1 coat. Yeah, I stirred the paint, yeah, we prepped the walls, still it obviously needed a second coat. I guess just to comfort us they gave us the paint we needed for the second coat of the house (it was so long ago, at least I think they gave us paint for the second coat for free lol.)
Later on, I think maybe about a year and a half later, it hit me. Behr’s Marquee 1 coat coverage guarantee is only for colors from their 1 coat coverage color pamphlet. Not just any color from the Behr’s Color Fan. We had picked colors from the regular color charts thinking those would also be under the one coat coverage guarantee. Long story short, now we know we can only quote jobs for 1 coat if they choose the colors from Marquee’s One Coat Color Fan.

Exterior Painting for the Lehigh Valley.
The paint rollers come in different sizes and different naps. For drywall we like to use a 3/8-inch nap on walls, ceilings get a 1/2-inch nap. These cement block walls needed a 1-1/4-inch nap. The bigger the nap the more paint it holds. No complains about Marquee. It is an excellent product, it gets great coverage. We’ve done many jobs with Marquee and have had excellent results. If I’m going to Home Depot for paint, it’s for Marquee.
We were painting the exterior of this building in the middle of the Summer. We could not re-schedule because it would have ruined our schedule. It was a heat wave! Have you ever worked outside during a heat wave? It was nuts. Very challenging. We pretty much worked for like 15 to 20 mins, then rested in the shade sipping water for about 10 minutes throughout the whole day, the whole week. Also, everything felt heavier, the extension poles, the rollers, the ladders, us!
It’s almost a good work out. It reminds me of Dragon Ball Z. Remember when Vegeta and Goku would exercise and work out in that big cabin capsule kind of thing. They would crank up the heat and the gravity, it would make their work out much more intense. Yeah, that’s exactly how it was. After working in such heat, working in normal weather became a walk in the park.
Honestly, when we get heat waves we try not to work outside. Sometimes we got to do what we got to do but we prefer to be inside with the air conditioning on. Is it time to spruce up your business?
