In this kitchen we performed the standard procedures before we started spraying cabinets. First we cleaned everything, it’s crucial to have a grease-free surface. Then we sanded everything. We wiped down with tack cloths after dusting everything off. Then finally we started priming. In this job we used a 100% shellac primer.

The odor is very strong, so we leave the windows and doors open for a while. There are many types of primer to choose from and it all depends on the material of the surface that you are painting. There is shellac based primer, oil-based primer, water-based primer, laquer. Lately we have been using Stix primer which is a water-based primer, believe it or not it’s just as good as oil, smells much less and even feels smoother to the touch. In this job we had to use Shellac based primer to prevent tannin, Stix primer does no prevent tannin.
